#fatfriday review / Cupcake @ Sweet Bakery

I have decided to try and be healthy. The chap and I are on a mission to become, how do I say, less fat. We’ve (I’ve) decided to overhaul our terrible pattern of eating and snacking, which began this week with portion control (ghastly) and cutting out certain terrible foods (it’s been wholly painful). For the sake of sanity, I have allowed us a cheat day and so obviously mine is #fatfriday, and I have never looked forward to a day so much in my life.

Now that I only have one day of eating naughty yummy treats, they really do have to be worth it. I am not putting in this much effort to be presented with some subpar calorie ridden beast. I had to pop to Beacon Hill to look at some stationary, and walked past the most beautifully branded cake shop – not only am I a sucker for cake, but I am also a sucker for a good font. For the first time since being here in Boston, I entered a food establishment without checking online reviews (which in my current food deprived and demanding state, is very very risky) and took a gamble on the beautiful little cakes.

Isn’t it lovely when something is super yummy and you were not expecting it? Well this cupcake is simply delicious. It has lots of chocolate buttercream icing, which is slightly richer than Georgetown’s Chocolate Birthday Cupcake. It’s a more solid icing, whereas Gerogetown’s is super soft and fluffy (amazing but in a different way). Given the amount this chocolate frosted goodness, I thought it would be quite sickly (especially with it’s ‘Sweet Cake’ name) but oddly it is not sickly at all. It is most enjoyable, and even perhaps a smidgen less sickly than the Georgetown version. The vanilla cake is light and wonderful – it really makes a difference when real vanilla is used instead of extract (I cannot stand that fake vanilla taste or smell). It feels like a decadent grown up cupcake. My only concern was that it felt a tad smaller than what my belly required and if it had been slightly larger it would have got full marks.
